In today’s society, love is the goal pursued by many people. However, for young people, choosing the right partner is not an easy task. In this internationalized city of Shanghai, an intriguing question is: What do young men and women in Shanghai value more in their partners’ appearance or character? In order to answer this question, I conducted a real survey.

The survey participants were 100 Shanghai young men and women aged between 20 and 30. The survey was conducted in the form of a questionnaire and included a series of questions about appearance and character. The results showed that 68% of the respondents believed that character is more important than appearance.

Many respondents said that appearance is only a temporary factor, while character is a long-lasting quality. They believe that appearance may change over time, but a person’s intrinsic attributes will affect their entire life. In addition, they believe that appearance can only attract their attention, while character can truly win their hearts.

However, not all survey participants believe that character is more important than appearance. 32% of the respondents said that appearance is also a very important factor in the process of love. They believe that appearance can convey personal charm and attractiveness, and play a role in initial attraction. In addition to the above survey results, some interviewees have raised deeper reflections. They believe that appearance and character are not isolated, but are interrelated. They consider appearance as a first impression that may attract their attention, while character is the key to whether to continue developing.

In summary, although Shanghai’s young men and women have different tendencies in choosing their partners, most people believe that character is more important than appearance. However, we cannot completely ignore the role of appearance in love. Ultimately, for each individual, finding a partner who has both physical attractiveness and character may be the most ideal choice.
